SENATOR LOVELY SUPPORTS INCREASED FUNDING FOR LOCAL ROADS PROJECTS
(Boston) Today Senator Joan Lovely voted to increase the amount of state aid given to municipalities for the repair of local roadways and sidewalks. The new $300 million appropriation is stipulated to provide over $6.5 million in local road funding to the cities and towns that Senator Lovely represents, an increase of over $2 million from the previous fiscal year.
“Our cities and towns are in critical need of the funds that the Senate voted to appropriate today,” said Senator Lovely. The legislation, now headed for final approval, authorizes a 50% increase to the state’s Chapter 90 program, which allocates funding to municipal road repair budgets. The Senator further commented, “Since about 80% of roadways in Massachusetts are cared for on the municipal level, today I’m happy to support the repair efforts of my district’s local officials.”
