Senator Lovely and Triangle, Inc. Partner on Internship Program

(Boston) – Over the last month, Senator Joan Lovely’s State House office has welcomed a new intern.

Senator Lovely and Triangle, Inc. have partnered on an internship program to allow their clients to experience all that the State House has to offer and to be part of the legislative process. The first Triangle, Inc. intern is Raymond Erwin. Mr. Erwin is in the Beacon Hill office once a week and he’s already playing an important role assisting with constituent correspondence, filing, scanning and copying, attending legislative briefings, meeting with legislators and answering phones. He’s been a great addition to the office on Thursdays.

“Raymond is a pleasure to have in the office,” stated Senator Joan Lovely. “He’s such a positive presence. We’ve enjoyed not only his contributions to the office but his full appreciation of the experience. He’s taking full advantage of this internship opportunity.”

During the internship, Mr. Erwin will gain valuable administrative and office skills, make important connections, and further develop his soft skills. It also allows him to get familiar with using the public transportation system. On Thursdays, he is joined by Triangle, Inc. staff.

For 46 years, Triangle has empowered people with disabilities and their families, to enjoy rich and fulfilling lives.  Since it’s founding in 1971 by business leaders and families, Triangle has been guided by one overriding principle, ‘we are all people with ability’.  With an emphasis on ability Triangle has rapidly expanded to provide youth and adults with the innovative career, leadership and safety skills they need to live more independent and dignified lives.  Over the past several years, Triangle has transitioned from a sheltered workshop to a full community based program. With this transition realized, the community has really become the classroom and in this setting, Mr. Erwin has thrived.

Triangle, Inc.’s CEO, Coleman Nee, applauds Senator Lovely’s office for their commitment to providing inclusive opportunities for everyone. “Raymond has mastered the commute using the MBTA, honed new computer skills and really become a part of the Senator’s staff.  He has never suffered from a lack of confidence, but you can really see his personal growth and pride associated with the internship,” stated Joseph DiVincenzo, Employment Specialist at Triangle, Inc. “We couldn’t be more appreciative of Senator Lovely’s dedication to inclusion and continued support of disability services.  For these reasons and so much more, this is a natural fit and we’re ecstatic that Mr. Erwin can show everyone that we are all people with ability.”
