Senator Lovely Named Assistant Majority Leader

BOSTON — Today, Senate President Karen Spilka announced committee assignments and chairs for the legislative session that began in January. The Senate President’s leadership team includes a majority leader, three assistant majority leaders, a majority whip, two assistant majority whips and a president pro tempore. President Spilka appointed Senator Lovely as Assistant Majority Leader and Chair of the Senate Committee on Rules.

“I am honored that President Spilka named me as Assistant Majority Leader and Chair of Rules,” stated Senator Lovely. “I appreciate the confidence and trust President Spilka has placed in me by appointing me to these leadership positions, and I look forward to the new challenges and responsibilities that come with these roles.”

Senator Lovely was also appointed Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Education and the Senate Committee on Personnel and Administration. She will also serve as a member of the Committees on Ways and Means; Steering and Policy; and Public Safety and Homeland Security.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues under the leadership of President Spilka to address the pressing issues facing our Commonwealth, and I appreciate the opportunity to help shape the work of the Senate as a member of her leadership team,” added Senator Lovely.
