SENATOR JOAN LOVELY BRINGS E-ZPASS VAN TO NORTH SHORE
(Boston) On Thursday, August 6th, from 3-6 PM, Senator Joan Lovely will host the mobile E-ZPass Van at the Salem Farmers Market. Constituents are encouraged to visit the van, which will be located near Essex Street next to the Old Town Hall, during those hours and sign up for the E-ZPass program.
Maintained by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, the mobile E-ZPass Van encourages motorists to sign up for the tolling transponder program. The van offers drivers the ability to establish an E-ZPass account, to receive transponders on the spot, and to learn more about electronic tolling throughout the Northeast. Existing E-ZPass customers can update account information or purchase additional transponders.
Senator Lovely said, “Since the Tobin Bridge will be transitioning to all-electronic tolling soon, now is a good time for drivers to make this switch. That’s why I invited the E-ZPass van up to the district—I don’t want my constituents to be surprised by the change. It’s important that we not leave anyone behind as the state embraces new technologies, and the van makes signing up less of a hassle.”
In early 2014, motorists will no longer have the option to stop at a toll booth and pay cash for their Tobin Bridge toll. Tolls will be collected electronically in one of two ways: either through the motorist’s E-ZPass transponder or via a program in which a camera captures the license plate and the vehicle’s registered owner is billed by mail. MassDOT has been encouraging motorists to join E-ZPass in advance of the transition to the all-electronic tolling program on the Tobin Bridge.
